With the arrival of the LG Optimus G in Spain, many of which you are now in the search for a new smartphone have hesitated between it and his brother’s factory, the 4 Google nexus.
We are going with a comparison complete between these terminals, two of the more affordable phones within the high range. We will try to resolve the million-dollar question: what advantages does the Optimus to justify “no discount” price against which offers Google?
The brothers E975 and E960
The Koreans technology introduced with the LG Optimus G It was that persuaded managers of Google to partner with LG on the task of making the ultimate Nexus:
LG convinced us with the technology that we came to offer
Matías Duarte in an interview with The Verge (October 2012)
The LG Optimus G was presented in August and reaches Spain at its Variant E975, with LTE compatible with our bands of 800, 1800 and 2600 MHz.
The Nexus 4 (LG E960) It was presented in October and arrived in Spain.. good, it was complicated. It has no 4 G connectivity, stays in dual-cell HSDPA.
To be cut by the same scissors, they share more than one component:
- 4.7 inch LCD True HD IPS panel with resolution of 1280 x 768 pixels
- Snapdragon S4 Pro processor with four cores at 1.5 GHz and Adreno GPU 320 Krait
- 2 GB of RAM
- Non-removable battery 2100 mAh
In terms of design, we can say that the Optimus is more sober. Both are black and have a polarized glass rear panel, with a picture that is only visible when light falls at certain angles. The Nexus is more curved and has the rubber grips.
Better the Optimus
We could choose the LG Optimus G by your screen. How, they had not the same? LG wants to convince us that not: Optimus G introduces exclusive technology the Koreans call Zerogap Touch, as its name suggests allowing that there is no gap between the Gorilla Glass glass and panel.
Being so glued to the LCD glass, screen is 27% thinner, and the picture is clearer, sharper and looks better outdoors. Zerogap also reduces the frame of the phone, and therefore the height:
- LG Optimus G: 131.9 x 68.9 x 8.5 mm
- Nexus 4: 133,9 x 68.7 x 9.1 mm
* Update: * although it does not transcend at the time, the Nexus 4 was also designed with this feature and therefore the two screens are “ZeroGap”.
Another reason to choose the Optimus is his 13 megapixel camera (in front of 8 MP of the Nexus). Its added value is the software developed by LG. Some of these functions are “the last shot” or “firing voice”, which are explained in the video.
In addition to the features of the camera, LG preinstalled other applications such as “Quick Memo”, to capture the screen and then make annotations about the capture. The LG Optimus G moves the Optimus UI on Android 4.1.2 interface.
The LG Optimus G offers more storage (32 GB) space two models available of Nexus 4 (8 and 16 GB). Neither of them has microSD port. Finally, the Optimus supports USB Host mode, so we could connect USB devices such as pen drives (with the Nexus is not possible).
We will not go into detail with the Nexus 4, because that’s the full analysis of Engadget. In terms of the hardware, notably two advantages over the Optimus:
- It is lighter: 139 grams against the 145 of the Optimus
- It allows the Wireless charging by induction
But the key is in the software: the Nexus-4 is a day with Android (version 4.2.2 Jelly Bean) and will remain so until Google does not give support. With the Nexus we not rely of the manufacturer or the operator to have the latest functionality of Google’s operating system.
LG Optimus G vs. 4 nexus: question of price
The usual way of buying a Nexus 4 is directly in Google Play. The stock in Spain has stabilized in the last month and now are available both the model of 16 GB (349 euros plus postage) as of 8 GB (299 euros plus postage). Shipping time is 3-5 days.
The price of the LG Optimus G free is 599 euros, a remarkable leap. But unlike the Nexus, the LG model get subsidized or funded by Vodafone, Orange and Yoigo:
- Prices of the LG Optimus G with Vodafone
- The LG Optimus G with Amena Awards
- The LG Optimus G with Telstra Awards
